“Nothing off the shelf does what we do.”
Operational workflows: we design, implement and support the way your team and customers get work done. Any software we build belongs to you.
Off-the-shelf software is the right answer more often than not, and we say so when it is. Where it does not fit, because your work is unusual, a big customer wants something specific or your method is worth selling, we build the system for you: a customer or supplier portal, a control system, an internal tool or a product of your own. Every build has a fixed quote and a written definition of done. You own the code and the data, and the system runs in your own cloud account.
What it does for your business
The business side first. The software comes later.
Software that fits how you work
Built around your jobs, your customers and your rules, so the team stops working round the gaps in a package.
Say yes to the big customer
When a customer wants a portal, live order status or invoices in its own format by a date it sets, we build to that date.
Sell what you know
A method your experts carry in their heads can become software you sell to other firms, as Global HR did.
Yours to keep
The code, data and cloud account belong to you. We write it so another team could pick it up.
What it has done for clients
| The cost today | What changes | Proof |
|---|---|---|
| Renting a third party’s system to watch and control its traffic signals | A fleet control system Halo owns, live under five months after our first proposal | Halo Traffic |
| A payroll migration method that only earned while its experts were billing | Launch Saviour, the firm’s own product, tested at the size of a 300,000-employee payroll | Global HR |
| The biggest customer setting a date for digital ordering and invoicing | Ordering and invoicing live on the customer’s deadline, and the customer stayed | Everything Boxed |
| A core platform that needed experienced engineers without a hiring cycle | Nearly five years on its core product, which now runs a major public network | Gateway.FM |

How the work runs
- 1
Free call
You describe the job and what the software would need to do. We say first whether something off the shelf would do it.
- 2
Discovery
A short paid phase, quoted for the job. We map the work, the data and the people who will use it, and agree what done means. It ends in a fixed build price.
- 3
Build in stages
The first useful piece goes live early, then the rest follows in fixed-scope stages you can follow on a shared board.
- 4
Hand over or look after
You get the code, the documents and the accounts. System Care is there if you want us to keep it running.
Questions
What does custom software cost?
It depends on the job, so we do not publish a figure. After a short call we quote discovery, and discovery ends in a fixed price for the build. You know the cost before the build starts.
Who owns the code?
You do: the code, the data and the cloud account it runs in. If you want to take it in-house later, we help, as we did for Oldham Engineering.
Where is it hosted?
In a cloud account you own, usually on AWS, set up with Ricky, our AWS specialist. The account is yours, so the system does not depend on us.
Should we buy something off the shelf instead?
Often, yes. If a package does most of what you need, we will recommend it and set it up. We build where nothing fits, or where the software is the thing you sell.
How long does a build take?
At Halo Traffic the first release took four weeks, and the system went live under five months after our first proposal. Discovery gives you dates for your own build.
